Application-Specific FPGA IP Cores
Application-specific IP cores from Adaptive Micro-Ware are tailored IP core implementations that enable our customers to deliver higher performance, lower cost products to market with higher confidence of success than stock IP cores. Application-specific IP cores for FPGA’s are tailored to provide specific product features or to meet performance and cost objectives that may not be possible with DSP, ASSP devices or stock IP cores.
Adaptive understands the IP core functions and how to apply them in real-world applications. We help our customers analyze trade-offs among conflicting objectives in order to deliver an IP core solution whose performance is optimized for the product application. Our customers often request IP cores that are tailored to meet one or more of the following objectives:
- Minimize unit cost
- Maximize throughput
- Minimize or limit latency
- Minimize power consumption
- Minimize or constrain logic resource or memory utilization
- Specific control or status interfaces
- Data flow rate controls and buffer requirements
For example, Adaptive’s application-specific Ethernet interface IP core, implemented in low-cost Cyclone FPGA devices, helped Adaptive’s customer provide a video distribution product to the market that provides higher performance than competing products, built with processor cards and more complex Ethernet interfaces. Our customer’s product management team was stunned to learn that such high performance network interfaces were possible without expensive network interface chips.
